The Midwifery
Model of Care
The midwifery model of care, under which I operate, is based on four primary principles:

-
Informed decision-making
The care involves informed decision-making in partnership with the birthing person.

-
Safety and assurance
The care creates a sense of safety and assurance for both the client and the midwife.

-
Trust and respect
The care is built on a trusting and respectful relationship between the midwife and the birthing person.

-
Autonomy
The care prioritizes and encourages the birthing person's autonomy, self-determination, and satisfaction.

Some other aspects of the midwifery model of care include:

-
Individualized care
The care is individualized and includes prenatal care, counseling, and education.

-
Hands-on assistance
The care includes continuous hands-on support during labor and birth.

-
Postpartum support
The care includes support after the birth for up to 5 visits.

-
Minimizing technology
The care minimizes technological interventions.

-
Identifying and referring
The care involves identifying and referring women who need obstetrical attention.

What you Can Expect When You Choose Midwifery Care for you Journey
The support I offer is based on the midwifery model of care. Here's what you can expect your journey through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period will look like if we work together.

Before we even get started, we'll get to know each other
Hiring the right midwife for you is the first step in having the care and support you want during your pregnancy and birth. I offer free consultations so we both have the chance to get to know one
another and make sure it's a good fit before you begin prenatal care.

Once you decide to start prenatal care, we'll meet regularly throughout your pregnancy
We'll meet once every 4 weeks from your first visit until you're 28 weeks pregnant, and every 2
week from 28 to 36 weeks. After that, we'll meet weekly until you have your baby. During your visits, we'll talk about the things that are most important to you and I'll offer the monitoring that helps you feel reassured that you and your baby are doing well or, alternativly, offers us clues that you or your baby might need some extra support. We'll discuss the ways you're working hard at home to stay healthy and low-risk, your vision for your birth, and what support you envision wanting or needing during the weeks after your baby's birth. I'll also share lots of information and resources about the various testing options available to you throughout your course of care and answer any questions you have about the choices you're making.

When you go into labor, I'll be ready for your call
I'll be on call for you from 37 week on, and when you're ready, I'll come to your home to help you have the birth you've been planning for. While I always approach birth with a low-
intervention mindset, I'll be quietly ready to offer any vital assistance you or your baby may need.

After your baby is born, I'll stick with you through the transition
Birth is just the beginning and, during the first days and weeks of your baby's life, I'll be ready with ongoing support and continued
care. I come to your home to offer both postpartum care for you, and newborn care for your baby, four times in the first month, with one final visit occurring at my office at six weeks postpartum.
